Nine

Taylor screams.

I scream.

Theo screams.

But I think we're all screaming for different reasons.

Mine's a mix of shock and embarrassment and mortification. Those last two are different. I'm embarrassed that I've been caught having sex with Taylor's landlord in her guest room. The mortification is over the way he scrambles off of me, giving Taylor the Doctor Derek view of my crotch. I grab whatever I can to cover myself, but I go to the extreme, accidentally ripping the fitted sheet off the mattress and taking everything on the bed with it. Pillows and pens fly in all directions as the sheet traps me like a bug in a Venus fly trap. One of the pillows takes out a lamp, shattering it on the floor, and it's the sort of thing that makes everything go out of focus for me except that pile of rubble.

It's everywhere.

It’s a lamp, but it’s everywhere.

The dolphins are sharks and the lamp is everywhere.

Taylor is screaming at Theo, and Theo is screaming right back, and I have no idea what they're screaming about because that damn lamp. If I just get all the pieces together, I can maybe fix it.

But then Theo launches himself across the bed to grab my ankle and pulls me back from the edge before I can step down.

"Oh my god,” Taylor yells. “How many times do I have to see my dad's balls today? What the fuck!"

"What the fuck?" I say as well, but in a very different tone. "Dad? Dad? You're—you're—oh my God, you even told me you had three kids and they were older, but you didn't tell me they're—" I kick him in the chest when I can't find the right word. "You're her dad?!"

"Who the fuck did you think he was?" Taylor screams, and only then do I actually look at her, see that she's terribly sunburnt and her face is swollen like she had a bad reaction to something. She's trying to hide it all under her giant hat, but nobody's gonna miss that.

And Theo must have grabbed whatever he could to cover himself as well, ending up with my underwear, which are giant pregnancy panties but still cover little more than his dick.

Oh my God.

"He said he was your landlord!” I shriek, so spun I can’t pause to breathe. “I wouldn't fuck your dad! Why would you think I'd do that?"

"Because everyone else wants to!" When I don't have an immediate response to that, she huffs, "He's old enough to be your father, Baylee."

"I didn't know that!" Numbers tumble through my brain. Taylor's older than me, and she's not even the oldest. Her brother's like twenty-five. That means Theo’s gotta be late forties and claiming he wants babies? How is this happening? How the fuck did I not realize he’s ancient?

"Now Taylor," Theo scolds, and he even sounds like a father with decades of experience under his belt. Like a switch flipped and Dr. Strange was Mr. Weasley all along. "You're making me sound decrepit. I'm only—"

"And you!" Taylor roars, chucking her purse at him.
